Salus University Speech-Language Institute (SLI) is the clinical training venue for the Department of Speech-Language Pathology’s first year graduate students. SLI reaches out to the community to provide our students with diagnostic and treatment experiences to enhance their learning as they become competent, confident speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Services rendered at the SLI are without charge to the clients from across the lifespan who seek care for communication and swallowing disorders. Providing a state-of-the-art clinical environment for students and clients are mutually beneficial.
Students and faculty have identified technologies that would better address the requests of clients seeking care for disorders associated with swallowing. Deficits appropriately managed by skillful SLPs allow individuals to maintain proper nutrition and hydration while continuing to participate in life events that centered around eating and drinking – from that morning cup of coffee and drinks with friends, to family holiday dinners and a celebratory slice of birthday cake. Improving our clinic’s ability to meet the needs of our clients while simultaneously training our graduate students exponentially improves the quality of life for those under our care and for those seeking an exceptional graduate education.
Funds raised will be used to purchase equipment for the lab that is slated to open in January 2022.
